Our goal is to create a warm and welcoming casting process. The team strives to lead with respect, kindness, and generosity. In regard to the character descriptions – they outline the characters as described in the script and in consultation with the creative team. They do not aim to be all-encompassing representations of who might fill these roles. We aim for an expansive and deliberate casting process. We acknowledge that the characters in the script are traditionally presented as either male or female (using he/him or she/her pronouns). Our character descriptions are marked with HIGHER VOICE or LOWER VOICE. Higher voiced roles are written for those with soprano, mezzo, and alto vocal ranges.  Lower voice roles are written for tenor, baritone, and bass vocal ranges. We warmly welcome submissions from individuals who identify as gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, or non-binary for the roles that resonate most with their identity.

All audition material can be found HERE. If you are submitting for roles outside of Narrator, Joseph, and Pharaoh - please prepare the Ensemble material.

Narrator (Higher Voice, Open to all ethnicities and gender identities): A character not of the time or place of the action. The Narrator tells the story through word and song, guiding the audience gently through the story of Joseph and his brothers, usually gives meaning to the story with their words. Strong Singer.

Jacob (Lower Voice, 50s+, Open to all ethnicities and gender identities) The father of twelve sons, his favorite being Joseph. At times he may appear unfair and shallow, but he is, more importantly, the prophet who recognises the future and the calling of Joseph. Doubles as Potiphar

Joseph (Lower Voice, Open to all ethnicities and gender identities,): Eleventh son of Jacob. Obviously his father's favorite, Joseph early on shows a talent for interpreting dreams and telling the future. This gets him into trouble with his brothers when he predicts his future will include ruling over the other eleven. However, it saves his life when in Egypt he correctly interprets Pharaoh's dreams. In the end he has risen to a great position of power, but he still forgives his brothers and brings his family to Egypt to partake of the bounty he has accumulated there.

Potiphar (Lower Voice, 50s+, Open to all ethnicities and gender identities,): A powerful and rich man. Grows suspicious of Mrs. Potiphar and Joseph, eventually has Joseph thrown into prison. Doubles as Jacob. Potiphar is self important.

Mrs. Potiphar (Open to all ethnicities and gender identities): - Knows who she is and what she wants. She is charismatic and confident. Strong dancer.

Pharaoh (Open to all ethnicities and gender identities, 30s+): the most powerful figure in Egypt, Pharaoh is considered a god/goddess on earth. When Joseph interprets his dreams, Pharaoh promotes him to one of the highest positions in the government.  A larger than life personality that can command the stage. Confident with ultimate star charisma. Open to different interpretations of how Pharaoh could be represented as long as the role embodies a superstar quality.
