Delightful “Elf” Rings In the Holidays at Marriott Theatre
With all of its sparkling tinsel, toys and merriment, the first sign of the holiday season is upon us with the new musical "Elf,' now playing at the Marriott Theatre. Based on the 2003 movie of the same name starring Will Farrell, the musical tells the story of Buddy, a real baby who crawls into Santa's bag of toys one Christmas and gets transported to the North Pole. He is raised by Santa's helpers and thinks he's an elf like them. When he discovers he's really human, he treks down to New York City to find his real father. Mayhem ensues wherever he goes, including into the lives of his cranky, workaholic father and suffering stepmom and half-brother. Along the way, he also falls in love.
With a hilarious new script filled with contemporary dialogue and fresh upbeat music, Elf is destined to become a holiday classic. Alex Goodrich plays the lovable, affable Buddy who only wants to hug and spread cheer, while Dara Cameron is adorable as his girlfriend. Jefferson award-winner Roger Mueller, also father of Abby and Jessie, is charming in the role of Santa. But it's young Cam Ezell as Michael Hobbs, with his magnificent voice that steals the show. He is one performer we're sure to see more of in the future.
Fifteen-time Jefferson Award Winner Marc Robin brings his joyful energy to the stage as director and choreographer with Ryan Nelson as musical director. The glorious holiday costumes light up the stage with the magic of Christmas. Be sure to bring the kids. This is a wholesome production the whole family will love.
