'Footloose' Cuts Loose at Marriott Theatre
It’s powerful, passionate and emotionally-richer than ever, FOOTLOOSE breaks free at the Marriott Theatre now through June 2. Based on a true story and the 1984 classic film, FOOTLOOSE tells the story of a teenage rebel and the impact he has on a small town helping them heal from tragedy.
The audience is hooked right from the start as the opening number of FOOTLOOSE creates high energy and over-the-top dancing to this hot 80s music. As the plot unfolds, the happy-go-lucky Ren has to move from Chicago with his now single mom to a conservative small town with even smaller minds. After a heart-breaking tragedy, the repressive local minister, Reverend Moore, has convinced the town to ban dancing and rock n’ roll music. When Ren catches the eye of the minister’s smart, strong-willed daughter, Ariel, it gets complicated. Will love win out? Will they convince the city board to allow dancing once again? Will they help heal and bring back joy to the town?
Aidan Wharton make his Marriott debut as “Ren McCormack” with a great singing voice and all the right dance moves. Lucy Godinez as “Ariel” is also making her Marriott debut. With her beautiful vocals, we are hoping the future brings more of her to the Marriott stage. Mention must be made of all the popular Marriott stars like Heidi Kettenring as Ren’s mom and Johanna McKenzie Miller as “Vi Moore” whose stellar performances enrich the show immeasurably. When the final Footloose music comes down, the audience is up on their feet!
Ten-time Jeff Award-winning director Gary Griffin directs the show with Jeff Award-winning choreography by William Carlos Angulo and musical direction by Jeff Award winner Ryan T. Nelson.
